I am interested in finding a lawyer who has a love for skateboarding and an interest in “fighting the fight” in Redlands CA. Redlands refuses to pay for a skatepark yet they have a law that gives tickets to innocent children who are skateboarding in the town—$40 a ticket!! Then they are hauled into court–isn’t this unconstitutional? I think the law is actually illegal or unconstitutional. I need a gutsy lawyer to take on Redlands and perhaps we could get punitive damages for all the thousands of children and their families over the last 3 years that have gotten these crazy tickets. These families don’t have the money to begin with and then to get these tickets seems outrageous and perhaps discriminatory—no tickets for bikers only skateboarders who never bother anyone just use the skateboards for transportation. Perhaps we could finally pay for a skatepark with the damages!! Help us someone!!

This story is an inspiration to me. I have been a skateboarder for most of my life, and although I never went pro I have spent many years skating streets, getting tickets, being harrased by police and security, and fighting to do what I love. Now I am a third year law student working a job at a big firm, trying to fit my old life into my new life, but still feeling like an outcast. No one at my firm knows I skate, and most of the kids at school don’t know either. I have felt a need to hide it. It is good to hear that I am not alone and I can balance my skate life with my professional life. I just can’t wait to hand a cop my business card and tell him to go find some real criminals. Its too bad my suit doesn;t come with skate shoes, cause nothing would be better than a quick session during lunch in downtown Denver…
